professor

Professor

Professor is the profession I chose related to my field of study. First, it is related to my field of study because when you study in languages it can lead you to this profession. You can teach the languages you're studying. For example, at Ahuntsic, we study Spanish and German and later you could be able to teach these two languages and also French or English, if you choose to do this at university or you could also learn another language and teach it. Being a language professor also gives you the opportunity to travel all around the world, something you do when you study in languages. The professor teaches in university, this means that he have to get his tenure.

In the text I chose, the author talks about the profession of professor and explain to us a little bit their life and also about the fact of being tenured. In the first paragraph, the author gives a brief summary of all the things a professor has to do, for example supervising laboratory experiments and also making sure students are on the good way for their researches. He also gives us information about the professor's schedules and what they do when they don't have classes, like research and getting their things prepared for their next class. The author also talks about the trouble professor have the first years because they have to publish something to have credits so they can get their tenure and it is hard to get if you don't work for it. But after he gets his tenure, it gets easier for him because he can decide about his own schedules and his way to teach.

The second paragraph talk with more details about how much time and efforts you have to put in your work to get your tenure. It gives more details about the years and the path you have to follow if you want to be teacher. For example, to be a 2 year teacher in college you need a master's degree and if you want to teach in a 4 year college or at university you need a doctoral degree, which takes about 4 to 7 year to reach. It also gives details about what you have to do to get your tenure.

The third paragraph, called present and future, talks about the future of the professor after they get their tenure and what they are currently doing at this point of their lives, now five years later and to finish 10 years later.

To conclude, the profession of professor is not that easy to reach, because of all the efforts and the time you have to put in to get your tenure and it is also related to my field of study because you can be a language's professor at university.

3 Reasons to apply in languages

When you’re at high school, you need to make a lot of choices. One of them is where you’re going to study in college, but you also need to choose a field of study. There are a lot of fields of study and it can be really complicated to decide, especially when you’re still at high school. Some of them bring you to the university (sciences, languages or arts) or directly to work after college (graphic design, accounting or radio-oncology). Because there’s always people who don’t know yet what they want to do, I will give 3 reasons to choose languages.

1. If you love to travel, languages is a good choice!

In languages, you will be able to travel, so you can practise the languages you are learning, if you love to travel, this program would be good because you can travel all around the world and there are classes given over there. This means that you can’t continue to learn but also be able to practise with people you just met and who does not speak the same languages as you. In Spanish, for example, you could go to Miami, Cuba and also Palma de Mallorca and for German, you could go to Berlin, in Germany. This would be a really good way to improve the languages you are learning.

2. If you love to learn about new culture and languages, languages is a good choice!

In languages you will be able to improve your English, but also learn new languages like German and Spanish that all the students will learn. At the end of your college, you will be able to fluently speak 4 languages, including French and English. You will also learn about the culture of the country using these German and Spanish and will also have courses related to cultures, like Les objects culturels en langues, monde et cultures where you learn about arts, literature, etc. The program also have a lot of activities to help students: you can visit museum in Spanish to learn about the Aztecs, you can also have intern coming from other country and students can speak with them so they will speak more fluently and learn more.

3. If you would like to have a lot of opportunities for the future, languages is a good choice!

Languages gives you good opportunities because you can work almost everywhere. You can work here and also in other country, at the international. You can be translator, teacher and you can also work with people in communication. It’s going to be easier to find a job after you finish school with 4 languages, so this will also be helpful, even if you decide not to continue in languages. You learn a lot of different things in this program, which is very good for you, and will be benefices. You can also, if you decide, pass an exam that Germany recognize, called Deutsches Sprachdiplom 1.

To conclude, languages would be a good choice for you if you love to travel, if you love to learn about new languages and new culture, and also if you want to have good opportunities, especially if you don’t know what to do and what program to choose. Languages would have a lot of advantages for you and your future life.
